Community Meeting regarding Culturally Appropriate Rest Home
On Sunday 01st of April 2012 at Mt. Albert War Memorial, Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust had invited Leaders from various Community organisations, Religious houses, Business organisations and Political parties to present a Case to acquire a Culturally Appropriate Rest Home catering to the needs of the community elders.
The Aim of this meeting was to create a Core Working Committee, which would be inclusive of leaders from various spheres of the community.
Many well-known persons from the community including some political leaders were present at the meeting. The meeting began with short presentation by Vikas Yadav, Project Co-ordinator for Bhartiya Samaj, focussing on the current statistics, projections and survey about the South Asian Communities living in Auckland Region. The presentation also highlighted certain key concerns which the community elders face in the current situation at the existing rest homes. The presentation was very well received by the audience present at the meeting.
The presentation was followed by a discussion about proceeding ahead with this project was facilitated by Mr. Jeet Suchdev QSM JP, Chairperson of Bhartiya Samaj. During the discussion, he also highlighted certain financial insights which were estimated about the project. All the members present at the meeting actively put forth their opinions about the project.
The Key Results of the meeting were;
A. On active participation from various members of the community present, A Core Working Committee was formed. The members who have volunteered for the working committee are as follows; Mr.Hemant Prashar, Mr.Ilango Krishnamurthy, Ms. Kritika Satija, Dr. Mohammed Rashid, Dr. Nitin Raj Sheth, Dr. Prakash Grover, Mr. Pushparajan, Mr.Sandeep Agarwal, Mr.Santanu Roy, Ms.Sharmista Roy, Ms.Shefali Mehta, Ms.Shivani Arora, Mr.Surjeet Singh, Mr.Vinod Kumar, Mr.Wensceleaus Anthony and Mr.Yusuf Khan
B. The Core Working Committee (CWC) would do a detailed feasibility study about the project and come out with feasible options to proceed.
Soon we would arrange for the first round of meeting for the CWC and regularly publish the activities undertaken by them.
Meeting was concluded with a vote of thanks to all the members of the community who have shown support towards this project, followed by light refreshment and beverage.
